Core Values

Since we believe that God created us for a purpose, we are committed to living out that purpose through our love and worship of Jesus Christ through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Since we believe in a commitment to love and worship of God, every Christian should actively and consistently serve in a local Body of Christ according to his or her gifts and abilities. We expect an attitude of excellence and integrity because God does.

Since we believe that the Bible is God’s revelation of His desires and leads to transformation, we faithfully follow the Bible as our sole authority and teach from it as such.

Since we believe Jesus died for the world, it is our duty to humbly serve, value, and love all people by influencing today’s culture but remaining holy and pure.

Since we believe that Jesus offers salvation to everyone, we accept the responsibility to make, grow, and develop disciples for Him.

Since we believe that Christ leads the church, we will be unified in harmony as we love and worship God together.

Since we believe we are a community of priests, spending time with God and other believers provides opportunities for growth and accountability.

Meet the Elders

Roger Curry has been a member of Countryside since 1954; except for time away in college, the U.S. Army and an eight year engineering assignment in Wisconsin for Deere & Co.  He was ordained as an Elder in 1974 and has served in a variety of roles in teaching, finance and property.  Roger married the former Connie Woodburn Easter Sunday 1966.  They have a son and daughter, and two grandsons.  He retired from Deere in 1992 and from farming in 2005.  He is encouraged by the Apostle Paul’s statement “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13 KJV).

Will Flesch has been a member of Countryside Christian Church since May of 1983, and began serving as an elder shortly thereafter. He is married to Pattie, and together they have four adult children and seven grandchildren. Will surrendered to Christ in June of 1978 following a neighbor’s invitation to attend worship services. He feels he has been called to be an elder for the purpose of serving Christ and his flock with my outgoing personality. His life verse is John 14:6, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

Wayne Lotz has been an elder at Countryside Christian Church since 1985. He is married to Cathy, and they have four grown children and five grandchildren. He has been retired from the Geneseo School District since 2004 where he taught sixth grade for 33 years. In addition to being an elder, Wayne is currently the financial secretary, a Sunday School teacher, a junior worship leader (with Cathy), and also a Kids For Christ leader (also with Cathy).  Wayne’s favorite scripture is Phillipians 4:8. Wayne’s hobbies include landscaping and yard work, golf, camping, biking, reading, and crossword puzzles.

Dave Shearer has been serving as an elder at Countryside since 2001. He and his wife Debra have two children, Sara living in Orlando, FL, and Stann living in Kansas City, MO with his wife, Sadie, and son Noah. Dave is retired from John Deere, where his last work assignment was as a Training Project Manager. Dave currently serves the Lord and his church at Countryside as Chairman of the Elders, Chairman of the Worship Department, and teaches Sunday School. His favorite scripture can be found in Romans 12:1-2; 9-13. His interests and hobbies include: golf, hunting, fishing, building projects, and working their yard/garden.

Jim Hawkes has served as minister to Countryside since November 2005, where he also served as a deacon before his ordination. He has been married to Teresa since 2000, and together they have five children and five grandchildren. Before fulltime ministry, Jim worked as a paramedic and has always enjoyed serving people. He began serving Christ in junior high, and in high school had a desire to be a pastor. Despite this desire, he spent many years separated from Christ because he lived life his own way. When he renewed his dedication to Christ, the desire to pastor returned. Jim believes life experiences shape who we are and can be used by God to reach out to others. He is a graduate of Lincoln Christian University. His interests include: spending time with his family, fishing, camping, shooting, being a student, and volunteering as a firefighter. His favorite passage from Scripture is Philippians 2:5-11.
